It has also had periods of silence when it was against the law to speak Basque. And moments in which it recovered and began to be spoken once again.

This timeline contains a number of curious facts.

● Did you know that there is a pidgin that is a cross between Basque and certain Native American languages? It was spoken during the 16th century. A pidgin is a language invented to enable communication between groups who do not share a common tongue.

● Did you know that Basque migrants living in the United States read newspapers in Basque during the 19th century?

● Or that a woman 400 hundred years ago requested that the Bible be translated into Basque?

Here, you will learn about the people who have played a key role in the history of our language.

The figures of these people are made up of the letters of their names and their works.
