You are entering a new area called ‘Gizartea gehituz’, which roughly translates as ‘Joining society’.

Here, the focus is on Basque society. Because a language only exists in the mouths of its speakers. It only exists when it is used and shared.

Languages are always changing. As the old proverb that Basque writer Axular used to like to quote goes:‘A rolling stone gathers no moss’. In other words, languages move, they do not remain unchanged or in one place for very long.

Basque has been around for centuries. And it has changed, it has adapted. Because that is what Basque speakers have done.

We now invite you to enjoy two experiences. 

● On one side of the corridor is a timeline showing some of the most important moments in the history of the Basque language. Here, you can listen to the stories of some of the key figures involved in each moment.
