On your left is the \u2018Word Spring\u2019. A huge screen from which words fall.<\/p>

Here you can read a poem by writer and poet Joxean Artze. In the poem, Artze says that Basque is both an old and a young source: a language at once both ancient and modern.<\/p>

Some of the words falling on this screen are in Basque. Some are very old, like \u2018Neskeneg\u00fcn\u2019, which in Zuberoan Basque means \u2018Saturday\u2019. Or \u2018ilargi\u2019, which means \u2018moon\u2019.<\/p>

And some are much newer, such as \u2018Queer\u2019, one of the latest words to be accepted by Euskaltzaindia, the Basque Language Academy. Queer in English describes someone who does not identify with the most common sexual identities or sexual orientations.<\/p>

As you can see, Basque is a language that adapts, that coexists with other cultures and languages.<\/p>

If you want to find out what some of these words mean, move closer to the screen and follow these steps:
\u2022 Wait until the word marked in bold reaches the circle in the centre.
\u2022 Then touch the circle with your hand to activate the sensor.
\u2022 A definition of the word written by writer Kirmen Uribe will then appear on the screen.<\/p>
